Squid & my firewall

My home LAN is behind a firewall. I sometimes use Squid (runs on a RH 8.0 box also behind the firewall) and it works fine usually. Recently, some web sites would hang when I used squid as a proxy. Then I get lots of hits appearing in my firewall error logs from these sites. The hits are on all different ports, typically something like 32445, 33479, 34147, etc -- all different ports and many of them.

So, it appears to me that when my browser hangs, there is return traffic that should get back to my browser, but my firewall is blocking it.

Anyone know what is going on here? Do I have something misconfigured in Squid?

Thanks,
Apollo

It's odd. This time I rebooted my router and the probem went away (for now). Other times I have restarted Squid and that did it.

Thoughts?

Are your firewall on the same machine as your router?

Yes. Standalone router/firewall. Netgear FR114P. I ended up upgrading the firmware. May be a coincidence, but the problem seems to be gone now. There was some DNS bug in the previous firmware version that I think may have been causing the problem. Not sure, but happy everything is back to normal now.
