All I found regarding the topic is a (possibly dormant?) sendmail-sql project in Sourceforge and some talk about socketmap, whatever that is. Can anyone shed some light on the topic, namely, Is it possible for Sendmail to do SQL lookups?
All I found regarding the topic is a (possibly dormant?) sendmail-sql project in Sourceforge and some talk about socketmap, whatever that is. Can anyone shed some light on the topic, namely, Is it possible for Sendmail to do SQL lookups?
Can you please elaborate on what you mean exactly?
For example, one might do an SQL lookup for an alias, instead of querying a local hash table. Similarly, an SQL query might be used to determine whether or not an address is a valid recipient address.
Yes, thank you, Tinkster. That's what I was looking for. Unfortunately, it's an old patch (for sendmail 8.12.7), like the one in SourceForge. Also, the recent sendmail on Gentoo doesn't support the smpgsql USE flag mentioned in the article, as far as I can see. I guess the SQL capability is still only available in disparate patches, and is not part of standard sendmail. Thank you for you input.
