splashy fails to work at boot

hi all,
i uninstalled usplash because splashy works a bit better for me for static images and then added vga=792 to menu.lst then set the splash up it just kind of does it like it is being scanned so it starts at the top and works its way to full image then fails... and i end up at text boot (still runlevel 5 tho so dont worry)
can anyone help me get splashy working?

I have a custom splashy screen set up on Debian Lenny, following this guide: http://splashy.alioth.debian.org/wiki/faq
My entry is the default "splash vga=791 quiet", not 792 though - not sure if that is different for you?

Have you tried the splashy image while running, just to make sure it works ok? Run "sudo splashy test" and see if you get the screen to load properly. If not, check your installed themes, and try installing a different one and test.

on shutdown splashy works and no splashtest produces the same error wich i will try to note down
