Speed Problem

What can i do about this problem?
When i log in as root my system flys like a rocket but when i login as a user its really slow and just unbearable to use, is there anyway to speed up while in user mode? Im not on a network its just my home system. I have RH8 using Kde. Thanks

I don't have any specific help, but you could check /var/log/messages and /home/<usr>/.xsession-errors for any error messages that might be of use.

what processes are running when you are root and when you are user, use "top" to figure it out.
