Arrow Speed


Im a total spped freak (not the powder)... when it comes to games i just have to have A fast fps ... When i had windows id tweak it to its best and use programs such as cacheman ... well are their any programs or any sites that tell how to get linux running faster ?

I'd start with hdparm and make sure your hard drive IO is up to speed.
Here's a link on using hdparm:

Also recompile a fresh kernel as slim as possible, ie: only the drivers you need, and use modules. This may be a trial and error process depending on your experience.

well generally you don't need those sort of gimmicks... you want to look into building and heavily customizing your own kernel and the likes...and keeping things upto date... the preemptive additions in the newest 2.6 kernel apparently makes some large programs liek mozilla run so much faster....

Question

i downloaded the new kernel , and went to the Disk site , and my nvidia drivers are up to date ... first of all the the hdparm doesnt work it says command not found , and how do i get my kernel up to date ?

You have to run hdparm as root.


For recompiling your kernel, there is a nice guide in the Slackware Forum. There are plenty of others though, google around.
