Well there's no way of getting the source code directly from the binary. You just need to go to the prgram in question's website and download the source, or get it off your distro's CDs.

But i feel if it is open source then there must be some proper way to see the code of binaries

No, you can go source->binary (compiling) but not binary->source

So long as you know which version of the program you are running, you can get the source code your binary was built from.

If that was the case where we could see the source from an executable, what would keep anyone from seeing any propreitary software they have that is closed source..

Well, you can always use reverse engineering....
asm is also source code....lol
