sound recorder

my sound recorder only works when I use the gnome desktop it does not work in kde.

I'm using redhat 8.0
The system is a ecs k7s5a onboard sound by sis 7012 with 256k of ddr. Generic nvidia geForce2 mx agp video card. Also i'm using a usb modem. Any hints will be greatly appreciated

Well, which sound recorder are you using?

When you say "it does not work," what do you mean? It exits immediately? It hangs? It pops up an error message? What error?

Gnome Sound Recorder 2.0.0. It does 1 of 2 things. Either i get a message that another program is using the sound card or it acks like it is recording but you can't play back the recording. In gnome it works records and you can hear the wav file playback..
