sound problem

Hi,
I recently have installed red hat linux 8.0 on my machine but its giving the message that /dev/dsp can't be open, opening with null output device.

And also when I open terminal window .Text written on that is very far to each other. Sometimes It also happen that text appear on top of each other (overlapping) in case I open some menu. Please enlighten.

For the sound problem you need to check that the correct kernel modules for you sound card are loaded and that the permissions on /dev/dsp (and the rest of the audio devices) are set to allow user access. Do a search of the forum for "sound" and you'll find lots of threads about this problem.
