Sound distortion on Linux with Creative Audigy platinum EX

When ever I run a media player (XMMS or Nautun) all my MP3s sound distorted (if thats the right word) basicaly when there is sort of 'crunch' to it.

In windows XP SP1 all my MP3 work great! So as I understand

This is a really annoying problem as I can't listen to MP3s in Linux at all!

Hey MvD-

I have the same exact card as you and may be experiencing the same problem. My sound only becomes distorted when the screen has to redraw itself such as scrolling web page, mouse-overs, etc. If I just let it play it is fine. Is this the same for you?

What driver are you using for your sound card and what video card are you using?

You can find drivers at http://sourceforge.net/projects/emu10k1

Also there are some really nice fellas at:

irc.freenode.net

who have helped me quite a few times when I ran into trouble.

I believe so.

Download the file.

From a shell type:

bunzip2 -v filename (This will unzip the file)

then

tar xvf filename (This will untar the file)

Check out the README. If you need help or have any questions just post back.
