Well, what did you install? If you installed something like gaim, did you try just typing gaim to start the program? Linux usually won't make little pretty icons or shortcuts in the menu for you.. you'll have to create your own shortcuts, etc.
Usually if you install programs as a regular user, they will be installed somewhere like /usr/local/bin or something like that. |
How do i access that usr/local/bin
plmk thanks and one more q' if you have time is there a website that can explain how to install like the packages, step by step cuz ive been to 4 of them and none of them explain it to me. Thanks |
Ok i found some of it... in the bin dir. But like on the packaged ones i tried to figure out on the sites and they said like tipe in install and stuff and i had no idea what they were talking about plmk thanks.

I don't know of any sites off the top of my head but usually the site you download from will have documentation on installing their particular program.
And to run a program from the command by typing the name, you'd want to bring up a terminal prompt. But your asking very basic questions, I would suggest slowing down some, might want to do some more browsing for some newbie friendly sites on using Linux, maybe even get a book. But if you installed a program called gnutella, you'd want to just type gnutella at a command prompt. Search this site as alot of these questions are also asked here. Read lots and lots, its the only way to get a hang of things while using Linux. |
Yes im a MAJOR NOOB :) Anways... one more question since i probably shouldnt start a new post. Um i extracted a theme to my desktop and now i cant acces look and feal i saw it just a minute ago and now i go to the control center and it isnt there... Is there any other way of accessing it not through control center because for some reason i think it was deleted off there. Last NOOB question and youve been a lot of help thanks.
