Some really interesting document?

Hi. I would like to learn how to use Linux, configure programs, compile Kernel etc. I tried some manuals, but some of them are so schematic and don't give me explanations (like *to do this type this*); some instead are for experts, and I can't understand a word... Do you know any manuals that can introduce me into Linux world thoroughly starting from basics?

Thank you :)

Nik

The problem with printed books here is that they quickly go out of date. Sams Red Hat Linux 6 Unleashed was a good book, but it's now so out of date that it's not really worth considering.

http://www.tldp.org/guides.html has a few to recommend; you might for instance try “Introduction to Linux — a Hand's on Guide” [2004] linked to on that page.

Try Rute, an online book (that doesn't work for IE, which is a complete pain when I'm at work)
