Some question regarding security

I am wondering if it is true that Linux generally is more security oriented than Windows?

One thing for sure that it has the file/folder permission option which allow different access right to be given to different people (ie. owner, group, all other)...

Windows has file and folder permissions as well, people just don't use them.

THe main difference is that Windows sets up all users as administrators by default, giving the user enough rights to seriously damage the Operating system

A typical Liunux user on the other hand only has rights to completely destroy their own home directory but shouldn't be able to affect the Operating system files.

So from that perspective Linux is more secure by default.. but it only takes a bad admin or an ignorant user to close that gap and make a Linux box insecure as well, by doing things such as always running as root, running X as root, adding their user to the root group..
