some games won't start

i have 8.1,and i can't get my openGL games such as the tron lightcycle game to work. When clicked on, it doesn't even boot up. I checked the software manager, and it shows the game is installed, and i even re insalled it. still nothing. Why?

Probably a missing library, cd to the directory where the game binary is installed and do "ldd *name of game*" and look for missing libs.

Do you have the openGL drivers loaded for your video card?

brettman73 02-20-2002 10:55 PM

i don't knowhow to tell. i gues you mean the equivalent to direct x? I would have thought the install would have included drivers. where can i get them, and how can i check them in my system?

What type of video card is it?

GeForce 256 (generic)

You need to get the GLX driver, and video driver from NVidia, and you should be good to go. You need to also opt out some stuff from "XF86Config-4". It's all in the doc file on the driver page at nvidia.com . :P The NVidia cards really hate the built-in drivers. ( So they seem to me )

I had the exact same problem. You will need Nvidia driver's for open GL, seeing as you have 8.1 same as me, here is a step by step post to installing the driver's.

NVidia offers Linux drivers support
Go to the website, http://nvidia.com/ and look for the drivers. They even have detailed instructions on how to install the drivers and enable opengl.
Hope this helps!
