software requirement
what is the software requirement for Mandrake, redhat, SuSE, debian, caldera, slackware?
thanks |
It really depends on what you want to do with it
linux will run on a 486 with only a floppy drive, but I would not expect much out of it in the way of 3D gaming. However it could be a very powerful router. Also the distros have more than one version which are all different in the hardware required to run them. |
thanks, that is hardware requirement. but i need to know the software requirement. since i search by using search engine, but there is no result. my lecturer ask we find for it. but i only find the hardware requirement for each of OS. software requirement, what is that?

linux comes with software, and you can install software on it.. linux doesn't require or depend on other software to run linux, if that is what your asking about ??

so this is a trick question
I would say you could call linux the kernel itself so it needs a boot loader, and a kernel but that's what your calling linux, it needs the drivers for your hardware built into, or loadable by the kernel. some fileutils and other stuff would also be nice. you need a way to create a filesystem unless we assume you already have one user shell if you want to actually login and issue some commands |
Linux is an OS and doesn't need any software. Its is a base on which other softwares work
|
Of course in order to actually do any work, an OS must be loaded. But that begs the old "chicken/egg" question. Without an OS, hardware occupies space and holds down paper. Without hardware, an OS is a bucket of bits.
Beyond the need for some means of loading the OS, there is no requirement for additional software until the discussion of functionality comes up. But that's another day and another professor's lecture :) !! |
