Super_me,
If you want to try Linux, I recommend Mandrake. You can download the install disk from their website. They are considered to be one of the easiest distrobutions out there. Beyond that, do some more research on linux or come up with better, more intellegent questions or you may get reamed here. Remember, never upset a linuxquestions.org modertator, for they are subtle and quick to anger..... especially Trickykid :) |
hey! watch what you say! you might upset him!!! ;)
:newbie: ALERT!!! super_me go and read through these sites: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/opens.../stallman.html http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/opens...ook/linus.html http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/opens...ok/netrev.html the above links will tell you about the history of linux, and also read these: http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/index.html http://www.linuxworld.com.au/article...cid=21&ty_id=2 they will answer any questions you have about using linux. Finally, as mentioned above, the best place to download linux from is www.linuxiso.org because you can see a whole bunch of stuff to choose from, and they have a lot of helpful howtos about downloading and installing. Good Luck! let us know how you get on! |

All this "Linux malarky" is about the greatest OS in the world :D !! It gives the greatest gift of all, the gift of choice. With choice comes decision, which requires learning and understanding, which needs patience and clarity of mind and purpose. You won't find that anywhere else.
Come on in, the water's fine :D :D :D !! |
Whoa! This guy seems to be mistaken. This isn't DOS buddy.
This is the future of the computing empire. It's about not letting your computer control you, but you controlling your computer. And yes, it does come with a pretty penguin too. The links from above are all great links. IF you are thinking of coming over to Linux, you may want to get a book with a CD inside. I have seen them as low as $10 US and come with an installation CD. The book will help you when you run into problems, and if you don't like what get, you are only out $10. Try not to piss too many people off in your attempt at gaining knowledge though. And Linus would kick the crap out of Bill if it came down to too. :p |
