Angry snort rule update script

I am new to Linux and Snort. I have a really dumb question. Is there a certain way you have to save a file for Linux to run it as a script? I have a script I want to run and I just wanted to know if there are any good sites or links I can go to that will help me figure out how to run the script. Thanks.

Check the file permissions. In order to execute it the permissions need to allow read and execute to the user that is trying to execute it. Also, you usually need to specify the full path to the program if it's not in your PATH environment variable, so instead of this:
$ myscript
you would need to do this:
$ ./myscript
note that ./ constitutes the full path to the program if you're already in that directory.

You should be able to execute it even if it's not set to exectuteable if you do
$sh myscript
this assumes that the script was written for the bourne shell (sh).
