In order to send mail through your server to another mail server you must allow what is called relay. By default mail servers are configured to not allow this.

To test everything else try to send an email to a user on your linux box.

you will need to enable relay from your network or domain.

You must enable "FEATURE(access_db)" and "FEATURE(relay_mail_from)" options in the sendmail.mc file, then build your sendmail.cf file..

m4 /path/to/sendmail.mc > /path/to/sendmail.cf

add relay permissions to the /etc/mail/access file..

localhost.localdomain RELAY
localhost RELAY
127.0.0.1 RELAY
your.network.ip RELAY
remote-domain.com RELAY
another-domain.net RELAY

Then you need to compile the new database by running this..

makemap hash /etc/mail/access < /etc/mail/access

You will probably find that you might not be able to send mail to people @ aol.com unless you relay the mail through your isp's mail server. Mainly because aol is stupid.

If you want to do that then add the isp's smtp server address to the sendmail.cf like this

if it's smtp.domain.com then it will look like this

DSsmtp.domain.com

by default the file contains

DS

Here is a note on Masquerading your address so it appears to originate on your linux box.

DMmail.domain.com
