I'm trying to install Smoothwall on a machine of mine. It's really difficult to get setup, does anyone recommend an easier type of firewall? A firewall that is dedicated to a single machine is what I'm looking for.
That looks nice and all, but updating would be a pain since it is CD booted and also I'm looking for something free like SmoothWall. I've just been having super ultra problems getting SmoothWall to work, so I think there's gotta be something more user friendly.

For the fireawall PC it does not really matter if you have one PC connected to it or a hub with many PC's connected to it.
What problems are you having with the setup? The Smoothwall documentation can answer most of your questions.
Once it is set-up it runs without much bother.
I use Smoothwall, and although it works OK, I'm not really happy with it or the attitude of the company.
Try IP Cop or if you want a BSD based firewall - try M0n0wall, which is what I'm thinking of changing to. The features of M0n0wall are not quite as flash as smoothwall or IP Cop but I guess it depends on what you want.
