smooth video playback on amd geode lx800?

I've installed Gentoo 2008 on the compact flash card of my amd geode lx800 machine (alix 1C). Everything runs fine except when I want to playback an xvid encoded movie or want to watch a flash video on the web, it seems that the processor does not seem to have enough power to handle this smoothly.

I read on the web of other people having no problem with video playback on the lx800. Now I was wondering if the fact that I compiled the system using chost=i486 instead of i586 (cflags=-march K6-2 -Os -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -mmmx) could be the reason. I'm also using the (masked)amd driver for Xorg. I've also tried the vesa driver and it's not much of a difference.

Anyone who has some experience with video playback on an lx800?
Is changing chost from i486 to i586 going to make any difference? Other tips?

thanks!
