My modem is Motorola SM56 Internal and it is not detected by my Redhat 9.I used the Internet Configuration wizard ,but it didn't detect my modem. How can I make it detected.
Right. I don't know how much you know about Linux so I will assume not much, so please don't be offended if some of the commands you know... better to explain fully than you get stuck.
first do 'su root' (leave out the single quotes, will be prompted for your root password)
then do 'cd /ToTheDirectoryWithTheRPM'
then do 'rpm -ivh SM56.rpm' (make sure you enter the exact name of the rpm)
That lot will install the driver. Not familiar with your modem type or Redhat (I use Mandrake). So not quite sure what you will need to do next. See if there is any documention installed with the driver. See if you can configure your dial up connection, there will be some configuration utility somewhere.
If you do 'lsmod' it will tell you what drivers are loaded. Check Motorola for setup instructions. Hope that helps, let me know how you get on.
Thank u for ur valuable time.U r right.I am really NEW to Linux.
I did as u said but it got some unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/char/sm56.
