slow running laptop

Just installed Mandrake 9 on my sis-in-laws laptop and it appears to be running slow.

There isn't much documentation with it, but I believe that it's AMD - should I put nopentium somewhere, and if so, where?

thanks in advace

Dont know how this thread slipped by unanswered.

mem=nopentium is appended to boot commandline ( in LILO/GRUB) to disable 4096 byte pagetables inorder to optimize memory addressing for 386, 486 or similar machines. That is not related to the performance issue you're having.

what does cat /proc/cpuinfo say?
