Slow boot to desktop

Has anyone heard of both KDE and GNOME taking an extremely long time to pull up once you log-in?

It is doing this both in my user account and root.

What processor? How much memory?

I use a single Athlon with 756, and it still takes a minute to load KDE.

I am running 1100 Mhz with 256 MB

The strange thing though is that it was not taking so long before. It just started doing this.
