I have the same card and it works fine. Next thing to do is check the volume level, by default it's always set too low.

cerberus 04-13-2002 02:28 AM

hmm ok its not the volume level its the songs just not playing...
sooo i dunno whats wrong with it.... next what am i suppost to do?

Aussie 04-13-2002 04:44 AM

Check the options in xmms and make sure it's looking at the correct drive.

cerberus 04-13-2002 06:46 PM

its setup right

when u installed slackware did you have any problems with sound?

Aussie 04-13-2002 07:31 PM

No, all I had to do was load the module, adjust the permissions and volume and set the module to load at boot by un-commenting the correct line in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules.

cerberus 04-13-2002 11:23 PM

well

i guess ill wait til 8.1 comes out im getting tired of trying to fix it

Half_Elf 04-13-2002 11:31 PM

Can you hear any others sound? Maybe the trouble is around xmms?

Aussie 04-14-2002 12:24 AM

cerberus, do "dmesg" to display the boot message and scroll through looking for anything that mentions the sound/multimedia controller and post them here.

cerberus 04-14-2002 02:23 AM

that had nothing about audio just stuff about syn packets and my ppp0 connection and there is no sound at all even my cd player u cant here sound when i play a CD

Aussie 04-14-2002 02:56 AM

Can you hear any sounds at all? and do you have an audio cable from the cdrom to the sound card?

cerberus 04-14-2002 03:01 AM

well i have this machine partitioned and in windows XP its perfectly fine but for slackware no sound at all nothing zip...

might this be the problem

Using /lib/modules/2.2.19/misc/sound.o.gz
/lib/modules/2.2.19/misc/sound.o.gz: unresolved symbol sound_preinit_lowlevel_dr
ivers
/lib/modules/2.2.19/misc/sound.o.gz: unresolved symbol sound_unload_lowlevel_dri
vers
/lib/modules/2.2.19/misc/sound.o.gz: unresolved symbol

Aussie 04-14-2002 03:15 AM

Bingo. What kernel version are you using? you can check with "uname -a"

cerberus 04-14-2002 03:18 AM

no need to 2.2.19 and i guess it has a add on of 2.4.5 but it mainly runs off 2.2.19 so 2.2.19

Aussie 04-14-2002 03:30 AM

Ok, try doing "depmod -ae" and then try insmod again, if that dosn't work you might need to recompile your kernel.

cerberus 04-14-2002 03:33 AM

nope it didnt work insmod sound said the exact same thing blah... anything else i can try other than recompiling my kernel?
