Its probably best to have Windows installed on hda1 as it doesn't work well if its not.

And what problems are you having with lilo, are you trying to install to the MBR, etc? More details please. And why are you using Slackware 7.1, its a little outdated. Might have better luck with 9.1.

windows should be on hda1, it doesnt like being elsewhere.

I am wondering how you managed to get the linux before the windows partition, did you have linux on first?

Windows runs fine. I read somewere that if I was going to dual boot, then I would have to put the Root partition on hda1 and make it bootable. I used slackware's fdisk to make the first partition, theb went on to install windows. After that I used fdisk to partition the rest of the drive. I am using such an outdated version cause i cant get my hands on anything else. The slackware installation went well up to lilo. I'm doing al this on a Dell Latitude 500 lap top. I dont have an A: drive so I cant make the boot disk. If I'm going to have windows and linux both working then how should I set up my partitions??? By the way All of the partitions are set up within the 1024 cylinder rule, so I know that is not the problem. Hopefully I've given you enough to help me out, and any is appreciated.
