skype and slack linux

I downloaded skype, extracted it, but then I couldn't finish installing it; guess I don't know the proper sequence of instructions for producing an executable module which would allow me to use it.
Can anyone guide me thru the necessary detailed steps for the installation???
Thanks
The platform is 'slackware linux 14.1 32 bits

Greetings
I'm running Slackware 14.0 32 bit and I installed Skype myself as per the directions

============

If you are using one of the distribution-specific packages, simply run the
"skype" executable. KDE users should find a launcher for Skype in their
Internet menu if Skype has been installed through one of these packages.

If you are using the dynamic and statically linked generic versions, you
will need to choose a path for Skype to exist in. We recommend copying the
skype binary to /usr/bin and installing sounds/, lang/ and avatars/ into
the /usr/share/skype directory.

Those all are created when the downloaded file is "ungztarred". Simply copy and paste.

Everything works well for me including webcam video calls and transfers with the only caveat that it doesn't seem to like the USB Mic included with my Logitech webcam. Each time before I start a call, or after if I forget, I have to open the Options menu and switch the mic capture device to something else, apply, and then back again to USB Mic blah blah. It's a minor annoyance but as I understand it, Skype is not bug free.
