Six speaker support

Is there a way to get the center, subwoofer and rear speakers running in linux? .... or maybe at least the rear pair?
I'm using the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card - and, I believe it's the cs 43xx driver in MDK 9.0 if that matters.

Linux supports surround sound through the usb audio specification, if you speaker set is compatible it should work.

By compatible, I guess you mean they must be USB speakers?
I'm using the Monsoon MH-505 - they're not USB.

USB speakers?? That's so weird ...

It'd be cool to see the age when every single device will use USB, so you'd have a real small strip of like 20 USB ports on the back ... what do we have so far?

USB printer
USB mouse
USB keyboard
USB sound (didn't even know about that one)
USB network

Holy cow I think it's possible! I don't know about a USB monitor though, that might be too complex a signal for USB to handle ...

Oh yeah, surround sound ... (getting back to the subject ) .......... uh ........... I dunno
