Simultaneous X sessions

Is it possible to have two displays each running an independent X session using either a second local keyboard and mouse, or by using the input from a networked laptop of something of that nature? I currently have a dual monitor setup, with an alternate config file for playing media on my tv; my script for this starts a new x-session with mplayer and the TV as the screen, turning off my monitors. I know I could set up twinview to work with one monitor and the TV as my alternate config, but it would make everything a lot easier if I could simply have it stay up as another session. And if this were possible, I do not see why I could not point each config file to a seperate keyboard and mouse and have an actual multiuser desktop.

Thanks in advance for comments or suggestions.

startx -- :1 to put it in the 8th window. you could then encrement it to startx -- :12 which would be the last window F12.
