Significance of colors in a terminal window?

:newbie: Hi - i've been wondering for some time what this means:

If i open a terminal window (im using mandrake) and seach through system files at the command prompt - i typically see listings in different colors. I think i have worked out that dark blue signifies a directory - but then there are other colors that i cant figure out what they mean. Im looking in /usr/bin and see some text highlighted in bright red - then there are text highlighted in brown or green with a @ symbol at the end.

I cant see explanantions for these colors anywhere - in particular im worried about the bright red flashing text which is probably trying to warn me of something? Can someone tell me what these colors mean please?
