Shutdown behavior

I recently installed RH 9. I find that when I select Turn off Computer from the KDE Logoff menu, system halts instead of complete poweroff.
However if I type 'shutdown -h now' on the command prompt it behaves properly i.e. complete power off.
What could be going wrong. Thanks...

Thanks for the link…I tried the solution mentioned, but did not help.
As a work around, now have created a link on desktop to shutdown command. I use the same instead of the KDE logout menu.
