Should i switch to Windows? or dual boot? etc.?
 

Linux is a great platform. Its much more stable and secure than windows could ever be. The problem is that I am addicted to games ( StarCraft, WarCraft, and just about any modification of half-life.) When i had windows, I could get any game i wanted up and running in a matter of minutes (plus the download time:) .) With linux, this is not so. I admit i am a complete newbie at linux, and just now i was thinking about how to install a binary package ( *hint hint* put directions for that too please :).) I use Redhat 9 myself, on a machine optimized for Win XP. So it came with Win XP. Then it crashed. Proceed with linux. No games!? Oh no! So i come to you. I have been thinking about getting Win XP for myself for Christmas, then either giving linux the boot (horrible thought), or dual booting Win XP and Linux. Or just stick with linux, and try to get all the freeware games i can, learn about it, try and become at least a semi-expert (i.e. learn how to run the binary thing), and finally be able to do just about what i want on Linux, as i have before on XP. All in all, i just want at least my starcraft back, and maybe even my mods for counterstrike, but i just want gaming bliss on a linux machine. Is that so much to ask?(probably is.)

no. you decide what you want to do. how hard can your decision be? you said you like linux, but you also like your windows games. what's the problem? sounds like a dual boot or a vmware/virtualpc solution to me which seems to me that you already answered yourself with all the background info you posted on your "problem".

In reverse order:

If you like 'em both, dual boot is the best solution. Dual hard drives or VMware are the easiest. Learning to partition a drive the way you want and using a bootloader is neeto keeno.
If your case permits it, a removable drive rack is a good option also.

Well thank you both. I have a way of answering my own questions alot. And common, ill take your advice on my profile thingy. Also i probably will dual boot now, might as well. Ill probably pick up a cheap version of windows too, since most of the games i play can run on win 98.
Also, quick question, would the linux security ( maybe stability?) stay with the box when im in windows? Or would that be something else other than dual booting...?

When you are dual booting, the operating system that you boot runs normally.
IE Windows is Windows and Linux is Linux.
It is often possible to share files with the right setup. Programs run on their own OS.

By the way, what do you guys use for dual boot? I think im going to stick with RH9 for now for my linux part, but what do you recommend for my windows part? XP is a bit hefty of a price, and as i stated above i will be using it mostly for games and movies.

I usually get OEM versions since they are cheaper. Better to get the full version if you can afford it.
Windows 98 is headed for the "no longer supported list" soon. Windows XP needs online registration and has a possible unpatched online life of minutes due to blaster and such.
Whichever your games run on, I guess. You may want to search a bit here as a lot of people find how to deal with gaming on Linux.
