Several "Input/output error" after moving data to dvd

Hi, I was changing the filesystem of one partition, and copied part of it's content to a dvd-r. Now trying to copy it back to the new filesystem, I am getting a lot of "Input/output error" from many files. When I send a ls -lh, the files seems to be ok, with normal sizes, but when I try to copy them, it takes a lot and end generating a empty file together with the error message. So I want to know if there is a way to recover the files, whether it be being from the dvd or from the hard drive itself. I had a ntfs partiton and changed it to ext4.

Many thanks.

P.S: Some troubling files aren't empty, they have normal size, but when I try to open them, I get
Quote:
Error interpreting JPEG image file (Not a JPEG file: starts with (random hex number)

On a second observation, I heard about a software called photorec, and I am currently executing it, but he returns the files with different names. The problem with that is that the files that I am trying to recover aren't mine, I don't know them, can only recognize them by their attributes. Plus it already recovered more than 80000 jpg files (the ones I am interested into)

I/O error usually means failing hardware.
either something went wrong while burning the dvd, or the drive is dirty or failing, or all of these.

good call to use photorec (which can recover all sorts of files, not only photos).
