Setup printer in Arch Linux
I tried setting up my printer (HP Deskjet D4260) under Arch Linux, but with no success.
I tried following the page on printing in ArchWiki, and I tried playing around with it, but I just couldn't get it to work. Can you tell he how to do this? |
Regardless of the distro, I now always use web interface (localhost:631)
Does the installer find the printer? Does it find one or more drivers? Do you have HPLIP and GutenPrint installed? |
The problem I was having before was that CUPS would fail to start manually, but I still left it installed and added cups to the DAEMONS array in rc.conf.
I just installed gutenprint and logged onto localhost:631, and it worked (must have started and boot time). I set up the printer there and it works! BTW, what is gutenprint and is it required? |
gutenprint is simply one of the many driver options. It does not seem to work with some Lasers, but I use it exclusively with my Epson inkjets. It now has head cleaning and testing built is and is --in many ways better than the Epson Windows drivers.
