Server speed query

I'm running a server on my linux box, with an adsl connection (512/256).

When I connected to the server locally, web pages load instantly, but when I view them over the internet, they load like I'm using 56k connection. A 56k connection will download a webpage at roughly 3kbs, when viewing my site it should be viewable at 25-30kbs, but this doesnt seem to be the case.

Is there anything I can do?

Just a little note on your maths :}

Your upstream is supposedly 256K ... that
should give you a top of 13Kbit/s for the
download from another site if your 3K
for a 56 connection were correct, not
25 to 30. To check what's happening
I'd suggest t have a look at your logfiles.

Cheers,
Tink

I dont understand this?

I am under the impression that it total I can use 512 download and 256 upload at the same time.

I have downloaded files from my server from work, and download speeds are 30kbs.

Where are the logs files I need to look at?
