I'm trying to fix an issue where my CentOS 5 box refuses ssh connections because of a failure to create a tty device on boot. Does anyone know of the default way to create this device without running a script at boot? The command I use to create the device is:
exec /sbin/MAKEDEV tty
I don't want to have to create this device every time the machine boots using a handmade script. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.
I don't know Centos, but normally (these days anyway) the
tty's should be looked after by udev rules. Do you see
any error messages pertaining to ttys in your dmesg output
or system logs (e.g. syslog, messages, debug, ...)?
