Server project "LAMP" and Slackware

Hi!

I have in mind to build my own server but I consider to ask you experts if its possible to make it happen.

I got the following hardware that runs Slackware just fine.

600MHz AMD
Motherboard
224mb RAM
Two 4GB harddrives
One 500MB harddrive
Cdrom
Graphic card
Network card

What i want to do is make the 500MB harddrive a swap partition
and the other two I plan to make a software RAID 1 on wich I will install Slackware.

Is this possible? To boot of a software RAID array?

I also want to make the Slackware OS to take as little space as possible,
the only thing i need is Apache, mySQL, PHP, FTP and some kind of remote control SSH?

How small is it possible to make Slackware? without recompile the kernel? How much space and speed will I gain if i recompile the kernel for this machine?

Another thing is security. How good will it be on my planed system?

Have i nice day all!

4gb should be well sufficient fo installing a Slack base and just apache, mysql and php, but depending on what you want to do, you may need more space later.
