Self Destructing E-mail Patent
http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...RS=20130159436
Is it just me, or have we all completely lost our marbles? Are these guys really trying to patent the ability to add an expiration tag to an e-mail and the line of code that checks if can be deleted?
Of course, the patent description is like three pages long, describing transitions between the "state machines" which do the checking and notification, and there are diagrams too! What a joke.
God help us. I wonder how many stupid little patents or pending patents we violate every day just checking our e-mail or browsing the Web.

Yes we have lost our marbles...as to the "this message will destruct in 5 seconds", wasn't that the old MI tape trick? And doesn't snap chat do this already? Just smile and wave, it will all be over soon.

It takes a lot of smarts to apply for patents for stuff that already exists.
That way, you know it works.

And ultimately, unless the server adheres to that standard, it's meaningless.
