segmantation fault and .ICEauthority
Hi Penguins.
:) I am posting this hoping it helps somebody. With my Debian penguin, I screwed up NVIDIA driver. (I was installing 1.0-8762, hoping it would be faster or fancier.... than 1.0-7174) This attempt resulted in major disaster. (totally dead penguin) After several fsck sessions. I re-installed 7174 again. With root, gnome kicked in OK. However, xfce does not kick in at user level. (startup screen comes up, then everything blacks out) :tisk: Code:
startx >& errorlog & Code:
** ERROR **: fvwm4: Segmentation fault ;) One line above, Code:
iceauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/user/.ICEauthority :p  |
I've found the same true on my system. When I first started using Linux I thought everything was done for, when I got the .ICEauthority message. Now I just treat it as an annoyance, and as for you, it generally restores normal operation after deleting the file.
I think I learned to do this on LinuxQuestions. :) |
