Hi LQ readers, i'm seeking some advice. I've had a Dell Inspiron 5100 for a long while, and i switched over to ubuntu about 6 months ago. So far it's been ok, but I'm having trouble with the hardware itself. It seems that the driver i'm using doesn't really go well with the card. Wireless works in all, but it's far from reliable.

I was wondering if any current or past users of this laptop have been through similar problems, and maybe someone could suggest a new distro that has better support for this computer. I'm willing to give you any info, and walkthroughs or trouble shooting would be great.

What card is this?

Broadcom 440x, or so I think

run "lspci" and find the card and paste the line here
