Security issues with IRC--HOW TO--
HI... I would like to use the IRC chat, but since I'm new to LInux I'm not so sure about my security level.... I just don't want to have a bad experience with IRC... Yesterday I was using the XIRC Client but didn't last long.... What do you guys use for security? What firewalls? What scripts? How do I configured a Proxy to hide my IP when using the client?... I use Redhat 8.. Thanks for any suggestions....

first off read up on iptables... second of all look through your /etc/inetd.conf and see what services are starting up and accessing the internet from your box.. it might also be a good idea to do "nmap localhost" to see what ports you have open.. as far as being somewhat secure over irc, i would recommend having someone set you up with a vhost or some sort of bnc.. :)
