"Search for Files ..." doesn't work

It doesn't find any of the files that are actually there. For example, I type vmlinuz searching in the directory /usr/src/linux/ where it actually is, and it says no files found. Why?

What command are you using?

Are you trying to execute a file in the current directory? If so you need to type "./filename".

updatedb worked great! Do I have to run the command every time I search for a new file that was installed after I ran the command?

Yes you will. Its a good idea to put updatedb into a cron job to run weekly or daily depending on how often your adding new files.
