scrolling mouse RH8
I would like to make my middle mouse button scroll but all attempts I have previously made playing around with KDE have not worked.
I was wondering if anone knows of a conf file to edit that will fix this problem ortherwise a guaranteed means of setting this feature up would be good
Cheers
Pteren

Open up your /etc/X11/XF86-config file. Go to the section that says "Input Device" Identifier "Mouse1" Add the line "Option 'ZAxisMapping' 4 5' ". If it is an Intellimouse, then change "PS/2" to "IMPS/2" under the protocol option.

I have this setting already and still no scrolling
For Mouse1 I have:
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
and the IMPS/2 and have tried with and without the IM
Do you perhaps have any other way that I can fix this problem

Just an offhand thought... On some systems with XFree86 4.x installed, there will be an /etc/X11/XF86Config and an /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. XFree86 will only take its settings from one of these (usually XF86Config-4), and the other will be ignored. You might check to see whether you have both of these files, and if so whether modifying the other one will enable your mouse wheel.

I looked for the XF86Config-4 file but it doesn't exist. The only file I have on my machine is the usual XF86Config.
However just as a point though I am not sure of it's relevance I had to patch the kernel for a Nvidia GForce4. I am guessing that this may have an effect on th X11 server!?

you should list your hardware. I have a mouse that scroll on a via chipset machine but does not on a sis machine. I had to use a usb mouse to get scrolling on then sis machine.

Does the A4Tech cordless mouse have "explorer" buttons on the sides, like the Microsoft Explorer mouse? If so, those will generally correspond to buttons 4 and 5, so your ZAxisMapping values would have to be 6 and 7. Check out this thread for quite a few configuration ideas applicable to this situation: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/21303
If the mouse only has three buttons, I'm afraid I have no more ideas.
