To all friends in this forum.
I am using Red Had 7.2. Recently, I have recompiled my kernel 2.4.18 . I am using Grub as my boot loader. So that I can keep the old kernel and try out the new kernel (2.4.18). I accept all my default setting when doing "make menuconfig". The only thing I made is to changes to the Raid setting to "Raid 1" . This is because I am doing software raid.

The Problem is :
After I have selected the new kernel (2.4.18) from my grub start up menu. The boot up process will start as normaly until it reach the "Welcome Red Had " section......The screen appear vertical stripes and not readible. I did not even see the [ok] status because it is not visible/readible.

How is lilo suppose to help ?? That won't do anything in this case. Try to give helpful replies or don't reply at all.

Anyways, about your problem. When its all scrambled does it ever finish booting up or can you tell where it hangs ? Are you still able to boot using your old kernel ??
Might need to boot with a rescue disk or cd and maybe try to recompile, something definitly went wrong. Let us know !

My task to accomplish

I need to do 3 things.
1) To set up a new linux server with Red Hat 7.2
2) The old kernel is 2.4.7.10 I need to recompile a new kernel (2.4.18) to this server
3) Make it a Software Raid 1 (mirroring) by add in one hard disk

Can anybody tell me how can I perform the above. Should I upgrade to a new kernel first. Then add in a new hard disk to do raid. Can anybody tell me how to do it especially doing the raid and the configuration(when make menuconfig) which I have to take note of.
