Question Scrapping Windows


Ok here it is i've been running linux for awhile now and i have a 30 gig hardrive with 10 gig for mandrake linux 9.1 20 gig for Windows 2000(NTFS) my question does anyone want to give me any advice on how to get rid of the windows partition and give it too linux without going and reformatting my drive and reinstalling linux. Im not 100% sure what to do yet im just seeing if i forgot something. thanx

sure, just from linux, reformat the windows partition in linux (mkfs -t ext2 [/dev/hda(Partition number) for ide /dev/sd(partition number) for scsi) and reinstall lilo or grub (whichever you use) if necessary, then edit your /etc/fstab with a line like

/dev/hda1 /mnt/stuff ext2 defaults 0 0

replacing
/dev/hda1 with the new linux partition (former windows parti
the rest will stay the same
use tabs between sections to keep the file nice and neat
/mnt/stuff with the desired mount point of your new partition

Thankx worked great i couldnt beleive it the other day i got back into windows to grab some pictures and mpeg's i had. I have not booted into windows since it was just using up space on my HD and it is slow as sh** ......

ext2? i'd go with ext3, as a matter of fact, im about to do it to my windows drive, i put win 2k server on it....but im afraid to boot to it because its a fresh install...unpatched.....bye bye windows.

lol, i just hit Escape, shift+; w, q (been using vim a lot for the past 2 days)

that was soooo fast, ive never done that before, it took less than 2 minutes (maybe less than 1) to format the 40 gig drive that had windows on it...still gotta test it out though
