Scanning Problem XSane

Hello,

I'm running Ubuntu Feisty (but have had the same problem on previous releases). I'm almost free of Windows now and it seems really ridiculous to have to boot into XP just to scan a doc!

I need to be able to scan documents and print them. In Windows, this is out-of the-box simple (HP 3-in-1 printer). Under Linux, I'm having all kinds of trouble.

XSane works, but the images come out much smaller than the original (when printed) and far too light (whether printed or not).

I've tried increasing the resolution and contrast (in XSane) to take care of the second problem and drastically enlarging the image in the Gimp, which further hurts the quality.

I'm not sure what kind of default configurations folks put into this program, or what to do about it. This is a major song and dance just to scan an image.

Anyone know how to just hit "scan" and get an accurate, printable facsimile in the right size?

Any help appreciated?

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply.

The printer is an HP psc 1315 all-in-one. The system recognizes it as 1310 or 1310 series, as it does on Windows.
