Question Scanbus doesn't to track down dev number?

I need to burn some iso's but I can't seem to find the dev numbers so I can do this.

when entering in 'cdrecord -scanbus' I get

bash-2.05a# cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord 2.01a02 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI dr iver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root.
cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'.
I really don't want to reinstall jamd, spend another 5 hours redownloading the redhat iso's and then burn it is there anyway I can find out what the dev numbers are. when running dmesg, it shows my burner

hda: 80043264 sectors (40982 MB) w/2048KiB Cache, CHS=4982/255/63, UDMA(33)
hdb: ATAPI 52X CD-ROM drive, 128kB Cache, UDMA(33)
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.12
hdc: ATAPI 40X CD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33)
hdd: ATAPI DVD-ROM drive, 512kB Cache, UDMA
so any thoughts?
I have a strange burner.....I've always had issues with booting linux cd's from the CD-Rom so I found out that everything works great if I run everything out of the CD-RW...strange I know. Just thought I'd add that.

Some distros require you to load the scsi-mod module instead of compiling it into the kernel, so as root:
modprobe ide-scsi
modprobe scsi-mod
modprobe sg
modprobe sr_mod
modprobe cdrom

Don't worry about failures from any single one, after it's done, see if you can then cdrecord -scanbus.

If not, as root type:
And post up the results.

Have you loaded the ide-scsi module?
If not do it this way
In grub conf located in /boot/grub/menu.lst add.

kernel-version-- ro=/your/hdx hdx=ide-scsi
In this hdx=ide-scsi where x is your physical locattion of the cd-burner.
If for an example..your burner is on the 2nd IDE controller being the master

it'll be hdc=ide-scsi
