Samba pdc: making mandatory profiles
Hi folks,
I am just learning my way around using samba as a pdc on our Win-XP network. So far, the samba pdc is up and running, test workstations can join the domain, and test user accounts are running with working roaming profiles......
Now, the fun part....
I would like to use and keep a single generic mandatory desktop profile up to date for all users. All users already have a separate home directory share on the pdc to store necessary documents and files, and in our school environment that is all the "roaming" of data that we want or need. Therefore, mandatory profiles is an ideal solution.
Can anyone tell me the process I would use to accomplish this? I am guessing that i would need to login with root access to a profile, get the desktop configuration exactly how i want it, logout so that profile updates on the PDC, and then use that profile as my mandatory profile? I also read something about renaming NTUSER.DAT to NTUSER.MAN to set a "read-only" mandatory profile.
I am sure there is more to it... i'm just hoping that i am at least on the right track.
I would appreciate any help and guidance. Thanks.
