SAMBA and file locking
I am running CentOS 5.1. I have configured the system to share out a data directory using SAMBA. I was able to join the server to my Windows domain and I can mount the share on Windows, Linux and MacOS. I've noticed that when I try to open a word document, excel, PP, etc. on multiple systems, file locking is used. The first system to open the file gets read/write permission while the other systems get read only permission. However, when I try to open a text file on multiple systems, file locking appears to be ignored. Multiple systems can write to the same file at the same time. Any thoughts on why this might be happening and how it might be fixed. Thanks.
