Samba & DNS Problem
Hello,
I have been running Samba and a local DNS server. It has been up and running for at least 6 months now. My problem is that when I want to connect to my Samba server from WinXP (map network drive); I cannot use my DNS name of my Samba server to connect i.e. '\\local.samba.domain.net\Samba_Path\'. If I choose to connect from WinXP to my Samba server I use '\\192.168.x.x\Samba_Path\'. This way works. The problem that I am experiencing...every time I use my Samba DNS name I get prompted to type the username and password. I type my credentials in, but no luck. And no the CAPS key is not on! :-) If I choose to connect via IP, I type my credentials and everything works! Hmm... Any Ideas? Thanks in advance! I can use my internal DNS server to connect to my LAN webserver (other internal DNS works great). I am running SLES 9.0. |
First of all, to the best of my knowledge the machine name should do,
e.g. \\server\share .... then: windows resource names aren't handled by DNS but by WINS. I'd suggest you have another (very close) look at your samba-configuration. Cheers, Tink |
