Safely Erasing a HDD with dd
Is it possible to use dd to write garbage to a HDD so that the previous data is un-readable?

I want to sell an old HDD but don't like the idea of the previous data being accesible.

I've read tha man page but it's a little cryptic, if dd is the wrong tool is there a better way out thier?

Thanks, R4z0r

try this:

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hdX
