Running multiple x servers in RHEL 4.0

Hello,

I've just recenlty replaced RHEL 3.0 with RHEL 4.0 on an IBM thinkpad. I seem to recall that I used to be able to press CTRL-ALT-F8 and I'd get a new X Session on a new X Server but on RHEL 4.0 this doesn't seem to work. I've done some googling but I can't quite find the solution. I tried from a terminal session (CTRL-ALT-F1) entering 'start -- :1' but I get some errors. I have a vague notion that there are some changes I need to make to /etc/inittab but I'm not sure. If anyone could set me straight I'd really appreciate it.
